what size tires do you guys recommend to run for drifting, i like the saleen style rims but can only find 17x9 or 18x9 is that too wide? what would you guys run if you honestly had the chance to run any ones you wanted? since im about to dive into this rear axle swap i dont want the car on jack stand but dont want to buy junk wheels so im just gonna buy all new rims and tires any help would be awsome

We are running 17x8 +30mm wheels off a SN95 Mustang with 245/45R17 Dunlop DZ101 tires. The combo really works for our power level and weight. I am considering a set of 18x8 +25mm offset for the front in order to increase steering angle a bit, but I am going to try out a 5mm spacer first to see where that gets me.

Remember, you will go through at least a set of rears per event, so having huge rear tires can get expensive really fast.

thats what i figured, but what happens when i start to put out major horsepower with the twin turbos that are being added, will those 17x8's still suffice

They will not be enough for that power, but they will be enough for anything less the 300 RWHP.

It is important to remember, drifting is not all about tire smoke, and horsepower does not help at all until you have a working chassis. We are running a stock 180,000 mile motor and just took 1st place at an event. My timeslips from the last time at LACR 1/4 mile were ~15.2 @ 88mph. Not a fast car by any stretch of the imagination.

The biggest trap most Mustang owners fall into is spending time and money on the engine before doing suspension, cage, brakes, alignment, weight reduction, and chassis testing.

suspension will definatly be done first i have another motor that i got from sensei, so the car is running and runs well, but dont think that it will be just motor, so far everything i have for the car (yet to be installed as time permits) MM panhard bar, MM RLCA, MM Coilovers, Bilstein sport shocks, and much more to come but the motor im building hopefully will have anywhere from 600-700rwhp

im gonna do my own custom setup, thinkin about running like a 44mm and a 62mm garret turbo for a nice full range powerband and it wont have much lag
