Modified A-arms for more steering angle.
I was thinking about the problem you had with lack of steering angle. And thought of 2 possible solutions.
1) Modify the stock A-arm. Since you are running coilovers and don't have to worry about the spring perch. You could notch the A-Arm and reinforce it with a gusset. I found a few pics of a corral.net member that made a minor notch to give his 17x9" rims some more clearance. You may need to notch more than he did if you need alot more steering angle. Here are some pics of what was done for reference.
2) Build / buy & modify some tubular A-arms. This would probably be more costly. This would potentially be able to allow more angle to be generated since you don't have all the structure of the stamped stock A-arms to gut through and reinforce.
I was also thinging that you could possiblt use a hub-centric wheel spacer to push the wheels out a bit. This would allow for a wee bit more angle before rubbing occured. But you are gonna be hitting the limit of the stock steering rack soon.
cheers.

We are using a 1/8" wheel spacer and it helped a bit.
Right now our wheel weight hits the LCA. THe A-arms on the car currently are forward offset Fox control arms from MM. I am going to pick up a set of standard offset SN95 LCAs because they should give us at least a few more degrees of steering angle until we have our custom built ones ready for track use.
hey what r u guys planning to do if once you get the new lca's the rack starts becoming the problem. can you get an extended steering rack? also are the new A arms goin to be available to the public or are they going to be a one off piece
The arms will me made available to the public.
As for the rack, we still have some space left before we use up all the rack, but once/if we hit that point, there are a few simple modifications we can make to get some more angle.
And of course those changes will be documented right here on drift 5.0.
I'm in the process of getting mor steering angle from my 93 fox for drifting, Heres how to get maximum steering angle from a fox
03 cobra rack an tierods
MM conversion steering shaft
MM sn-95 tubular a-arms. ( i'm in the procees of building a jig to make my own custom tubular lower controls armsto get maximum amount of steering angle possible)
you can use the fox rack with the SN95 tierods to save a few bucks. The cobra rack, however, is a nice upgrade.
yes but when you upgrade to the cobra rack you have quicker response, an you also have more room to work with before the rack hits the factory limiters.
I removed the factory limiters, but if the newer rack gives even more lock, it is something I will add to the roadmap.
I checked today with my tubular a-arms on my car now which are standard offset from d&d for a 99-04 i get 4.25 turns lock to lock with a 17x9. I am in the process of having control arms made the way you have them laid out in the one diagram. but after doing some checking I'm gonna have to use a SN length because with my tubular lowers with a 17x8 the inner of the tire hits the inner fender wells that are sheet metal.
sup!! stumbled across yur site and enjoyed the read. Thought I'd add to the topic of racks. It's been a long while since I tooled w/stangs but as I remember fox stangs came with a 15:1 rack ratio and the same rack could be found under tbirds & cougars of the 90's with a 20:1 ratio & if I'm not mistaken it had a 12mm longer travel. Maybe this is of some help to ur max steering goals.
S.E.C. rulz.... go dawgs
Thanks for the hint WaezZWheelman. I am going to use my extra day this weekend to hit the junkyard with a measuring tape. An extra 12mm is quite a lot of travel, and right now we have some tire clearance to spare.
what junkyards do you go to find mustang parts in the los angeles area, I've been searching for 94-95 spindles/ calipers and have no luck finding some.
I usually head to pick-a-part in Sunland near Tuxford street, but most of the cars in there are Fox bodies.
Maybe someone else here on the board can suggest a good yard to pick up SN95 parts?
mps auto salvage. a little pricey sumtimes but they're guaranteed to have watever ur lookin for. google them for the website.

Can you run the sn95 A-arms on 91 stock spindles? Or do you haves to do the whole sn95 swap?
You should be able to run them on stock spindles.
ok cool. the thing is when i called mm and told them the setup that i was going to do they said that will only push everything out wide, not give you more angle. on your car though it looks like you got some major angle out of it. i guess everyone has there own opinion.
Pushing it out wide, gave me more angle.
So both MM and myself are right.
:)
ha ha, told u Geoff. Wider is Always better- except for chicks.
so can i run sn95 mm a arms and use fox 2'' drop spindles ? i would like to keep my 4 lug for right now i just bought some 17x9 cobra r's for real cheap so what would i have to do to get my car to have the same steering angle that drift50 has .
That sounds reasonable to me.
