ok soo i want to do an irs swap but does anyone know if i can use the irs out of a licoln mark 8 or thunderbird insted of try to find a cobra. im almost positve it would be cheaper. and i know the licoln uses the sam motor as the cobra side for the s/c and intake manifold. let me know wat ya'll think
I know that the mustang unit is designed to be a bolt in assembly. I am sure that using the Mark Viii of ThunderBird unit will require more fabrication. Any reason that you want to get rid of the 8.8?
i dont want to deal with the binding issues that come with it. and tryin to correctly fix that would require a lot more modification than me boltin up an IRS. plus the irs is better no matter wat u do to the 8.8 when it comes to high speed turns.
here is a how to on a 99 + cobra irs have no idea on lincoln. and i think u can find a pretty decent cobra irs for cheap...u ever try mpsautosalvage.com...talk to those guys they usually hook it up if u talk to him. anyway here is the link.http://www.mouthbreather.net/IRSSWAP.HTML
lincoln tbird setup was sorta designed around a different chassis platform, the 99-04 cobra was designed to fit into solid rear car designed car, so I kinda think it wont work. In fact I dont think anyones ever done it that I know of
