BBK Equal Length Shortys, HELP!

I'm having issues getting them on (on both sides!). On the passenger side I'm hitting the valve cover or the alternator, so I might have to remove one or both to get it to slide into place. On the driver side I'm hitting the brake lines and I even bent them a lil and still isn't enough.

I'm not coming up w/ much of other people having install issues. One person said to jack the motor and disconnect the steer shaft (and go from underneath for driver side).

Just looking for some helpful imput before I go attacking this again.

Thanks,

Jay

The fact that you are having clearance issues on both sides makes me wonder if your motor mounts are are in good condition. Make sure to take a look at your engine mounts, they do wear out over time.

As for the header install, I certainly did not have that much trouble getting them in, but if I remember correctly, I put both of them in from the bottom. Typically with headers, it is much easier to install them from the bottom. If you can get a friend to help you out, you can lift the header into position from the bottom, and he can get the bolts started. I think the install took me around 3 hours with a friend. The most difficult portion for me was re-connecting the h-pipe to the headers once I had them in place. The secret there was placing a jack under the rest of the exhaust and carefully lifting it into place.

Make sure you have high quality jack stands that are rated for at least 3.5 tons and that you have a nice level surface to work on. Spending a few extra minutes setting up your work area properly will pay off when it comes time to hook everything up.

It really sounds like something is off on your car or the headers arent right. I never had that much problem with any shortys ive had to do

It must be the mounts, they are pretty worn and dry-rotted, might be a good idea to replace them now... more money that I don't have now... lol

Yeah, well I just overnighted some Energy Suspension engine/tranny mounts from Summit. So hopefully I'll get the exhaust by this weekend.
