Alternator problems
Hi guys,
I've some strange alternator problems and I don't know what it is exactly. Maybe someone of you guys had this problem.
OK first of all everything was perfect, I had no problems, but once I was blinking with my lights (xenons) and at that time I saw that the alternator dose not work any more, I went to a Alternator repair shop and they told me that it's broken (a rotor or smth inside was broken)and that It will cost more to fix it instead of buying a new one so I've bought a new one, I've putted it in and it wasn't charging the battery, but it had a test inside the box that clearly shows that it's in a working condition. So I've checked some wires, trying to find out what each one of them do and while touching them and moving them around I saw that the alternator is overcharging the battery it's holding ~13AMP's and when I gave it some gas it started to charge the battery up to ~18AMP's I tried to move the wires again but it wouldn't work so I turned on everything I could (electric) and drove to drift the car. The next day the battery was dead, I've charged it and started to drive the mustang in to my driving place when I saw that the battery is totally dead, the alternator was not charging it anymore and after a second or two I saw smoke coming out of the hood. I stopped as quickly as possible and I saw that two wires that come from that Alternator were burning. So.... Tomorrow I'm going to Alternator repair shop and I'll see what they'll tell me.
P.S the alternator it self was all in smoke to.
I can't return the alternator cause I'm not from U.S P.S.S I don't think that It was alternators fault that it was overcharging.

It sounds to me like you have a wire that is grounding out. What that means is that a positive wire is connected to ground somewhere in your electrical system. Don't just throw another alternator in there, because it will burn out as well if this is your problem.
A quick way to check for this:
When you connect the positive terminal of the battery do you get a little spark?
If you do, then you have a wire that is grounding out, or a circuit that is remaining open.
I forgot to tell that:
b4 the new alternator started to work there were no sparks, but after it did started working it gave the spark (I checked like you've told, earlier when it was still working) and after those two wires burned down there is no more spark, but the alternator dose not charge the battery anymore either. If I "handly" connect those wires that have burned down they start to make smoke and so do the alternator... :/ I think that you're right, I'll try to look for the place where the positive contacts with the negative. I think that it must be one of those two wires that have burned down.
Will inform you how did it all ended up.

Remember, the full chassis of the car is ground (negative), so if any positive wire touching chassis will need to be fixed.
can I ask what you were checking voltage with?
firstly with the gauge in the panel (stock) and than I've checked it with a tester.
did you check the battery to becuase if that is bad then it wont charge
If you have to replace it again, get a 95 altenator. Its a 130 amp as opposed to the stock 60 amp, bolts in the same, and only requires the splicing of one new connector.
Make sure if you use a newer alternator to bolt the wires to it, not soder them on. The person who had the car before me sodered it so I had a nice little fire a week ago and a 40 dollar towbill.
The problem was solved moths ago, I’ve wound a good electric and he fixed everything. There was a problem in wires and cause of that all the relays burned down. I’ve payed a lot of money, but I know that I myself was not able to solve that problem so It was worth it.
Yeah later on I wanna get a bigger alternator.
