I think that I might have seen it somewhere on here but I can't seem to find it now. does any one know where I can find out what the rules are for drifting are? Like what point cage is allowed. I know that coolant isn't allowed and no big holes in the firewall but that can't be the only rules.
I was told that they match the SCCA rules but I just spent hours on that site trying to find where it say what the rules actually are for the cars.
basic rules apply unless you are going to get into a drift series like FD or NOPI. Most events dont require too much outside the basic stuff like secure battery, no major leaks, no loose objects in the car, proper seat belts and a helmet. I think to find the SCCA rules which is what FD and NOPI follow as far as safety you are going to have to pony up $15 to get their handbook.
Formula D rulebook:
http://formulad.com/forms/2009-FD-Rulebook-1.0.pdf
I personally don't follow the Formula D rulebook for my build, but my car is not being built to compete in Formula D. For example, drop spindles are not allowed by the FD rulebook. K-member's are also not allowed unless you petition. If you plan to compete in FD, you will need to petition in advance.
For my local drift organization (Just Drift) the only requirements are no fluid leaks, radiator catch, cage with door bars for tandem, and a properly secured battery.
