hey i need help deciding on a good video camera for gettin good resolution film of car action. ive looked at the go pro HERO but the resolution isnt all that great, and it will only take 55 minutes of video before the memory is full and its not like a normal camera where u can pop in a new tape and keep goin soo im wondering what u guyz are using, wat u like, wat uve seen. gimme some ideas
I'm not Geoff or Dan, but I use a Powershot A630 camera with a Panavise 809 mount.
It supports HCSD cards and regular SD cards. And you can capture in pretty high resolution, or capture in lower resolution. I capture in relatively low resolution and if I mount the camera on my C-pillar window you can still make out the numbers on the speedo/tach.
I shot the latest video on a Panasonic HDC-SD9, which is a 1080i HD camera that shoots to SD cards.
In the past I have shot with all sorts of tape based, Standard Definition digital cameras. Sony, Panasonic, Cannon, JVC, you name it. I just found the cheapest cameras that I could get my hands on. I just posted a want ad for cheap ($50) mini-dv cameras to get them.
The biggest expense for me is my editing setup. iMac with Final Cut Pro, Motion, and After Effects.
Yup, I'd take David and Geoffs advice on this one. I've only been using my Panasonic regular Mini DV camera. Its been beating the shi* outta the camera- but this is all I use it for. Its ok res, except on youtube (Streetfire is much better). I've been playing with Go-Pros, but lilke you said the res is not even good. The biggest advantage about those is they're super cheap- so if you crash or just lose it its not a huge loss, plus the fish eye-lens is cool - but the mic sucks.
- David, Geoff, can you give us some pricing ideas on what youre talking about? I'm also interested.
this is what I use, its been camera mounted a few times in car. I did wish it went a little wider and had an optical zoom, but its $130. They do have cameras that are 1080p and optical zoom on there for a bit more.
I picked up my Powershot from Bestbuy as a package deal with my photo printer. The camera itself was $250 at the time but Amazon has them between 100 and 199. And they can package them with a mount and SD card for CHEAP!
Dan, you're absolutely right, Youtube BUTCHERS quality and if you have music that isn't yours . . .well . . .you might as well have not had music at all because they're muting it now. Streetfire and Vimeo are stepping up to the plate. Vimeo also has AWESOME upload options for when you're feeling a little 1080i and 720p, LOL!
Yes, and that's not fair because I purchase the CD, which I believe comes with a limited use license and using their music in a non-profit representation is covered within that limited license. I can also make copies. . . but you know what I'm gonna do? Just for the RIAA/MPAA and Youtube . . .I think I'll copy all my music over to my Shared folder for Limewire . . .so if anyone wants a particular song. . .let me know

@Franken_Stang,
Make sure your software can handle AVCHD. If you are on a Mac, you will be good with iMovie.
@David Adams,
I see you too have been struck by the youtube music bandit.

Is Vimeo doing the same?
As far as I know, no, Vimeo is not.
Then I see their popularity increasing for those who feel Youtubes invasiveness is too much.
