It way a crazy event. It was crazy hot and humid. There was no gas, and no tire changer. FD decided to cancel our second round of practice and qual due to not having ANY gas for all 16 cars. On Fridays practice, I was killin it. I felt soooo strong, and the judges reinforced my confidence. It was a huge oval, bigger than Seattle. During Fridays practice session, a clutch cable let go. We missed 2nd practice, and spent 4 hours with a very cool local shop owner scowering about a hundred mexican junkyards or "Yonkes". We finally found an Autozone and thankfully they had one (for $25)- thats why I'm so glad to own a Mustang.
Saturday we had zero practice. Zero. We sat around alllll day waiting for gas to show up. When it did, it was 5pm, on the day of the big show. We had to rashion 16 cars with 3 gallons each. They gave us 10 minutes of practice, which would lead straight into the show. As we fired the car up, we noticed a really obvious misfire. After a basic inspection, it appeard an injector was sticking wide open. We could see gas dripping from the exhaust, but had no time to make repairs. During the 2nd practice run, the clutch cable expired yet again. With the show starting immediately afterward, there was nothing we could do to fix it.
Lucky for me, Formula Drift was kind enough to allow me to try and start the car with the aid of about 10 guys pushing the car (thanks to all my competitors and there crew!), along with me trying to start the car in 2nd gear. Thankfully, I was paired up with my Team Drifting Peformance teammate Tony B. He knew the deal, and was gracious enough to wait for my car to start before he began accelerating. It was a pretty comical way to start given the video coverage and starter girl. The car fired, and I was able to shift up to 3rd (without a clutch). I also had to use an E-brake initiationation for the first time all weekend. I held the drift as long as I could, but with no clutch I couldnt drag the e-brake or clutch kick it to extend the drift. The result was some very ugly drifting. The second pass with me leading went much the same, except I completed the entire bank, made it to the infield, but was dead in the water after the transition to the left. I needed 2nd gear (since I was running on only 7 cylinders), but couldnt get it. I was out.
A big bummer after feeling soooo strong early on, but as that horrible but true saying goes, "thats racing".
Here are some video clips from my practice runs- I never got my really good runs since my camera ran out of tape.
Video from Mexico attached...

that sucks man, I guess you better hit up a ford swap meet and grab a stack of cables
Got 2 on there way from Summit, only $40 for a Ford Racing piece. Gotta love them fox bodies. Soooo cheap.
